16 Penny was called upon by
RSA USA and production designer Ken
Davis to provide scenery and props for a large
Buick commercial package featuring
Tiger Woods.
One of the sets was a representation of the design studios of Harley
Earl, an eccentric and brilliant designer of the ‘40s
and ‘50s.
A key component of the scenery was a re-creation of the clay modeling process used in the famous prototype for the
1951 Buick
LeSabre.
As only one exists in the world, it was time to get creative!
16 Penny
used a chopped down 1954 Cadillac for a frame. Then began the long (three week) process of applying wood lathering,
carve-able foam and real artists clay to achieve the proper contours and details the original sculptors fabricated in 1950.
